The importance of oversize wideload and heavy haul training.

About shipping oversize loads

Wideload Shipping  and mega moving oversize & heavy haul equiment loads are shipments that are over the legal dimension or weight restrictions that the government has established for traveling on local state and federal highways. These shipments require special permits of various different types depending on the actual size and weight of the object being shipped. These shipments typically cannot fit into a conventional industrial trailer such as a van or refer so they are classified as over dimensional or mega moving loads. Oversize loads are loads that are over-width, over-length, over-weight or over-height or any combination of and must be transported in accordance with all Federal, State, City and County laws which requires special permits before that actual shipment can take place.

Sometimes for mega moving this involves pilot car escorts, high pole car, police escorts, utility companies removing power lines and traffic lights, permits, and routing that ensures the over size shipment is delivered safely and on time.

WideLoadShipping.com arranges for permits and trucking services with customers with over dimensional and oversize loads and ensures their freight meets it’s destination on schedule.

Heavy haul or mega moving & trucking - This type of shipment is classified as any shipment that combined with the truck weight is over 80,000 lbs. gross.  Anything over this weight is considered a heavy haul shipment and the trucking company that is moving it must obtain heavy haul permits from each state it travels thru and sometimes each county and state. Routing must be figured as heavy haul shipments are not allowed to travel on every road as they could damage the road if it was not constructed to handle this kind of weight. Heavy haul trucking shipments also require multiple axles in order to equally distribute all of the weight in order to keep from damaging the roads.

Each axle has a maximum amount of weight that can be placed on it ie: 12,000 lbs.  For instance if a heavy haul shipment or load weighed 160,000 lbs. and the truck and trailer weighed 40,000 lbs., the truck and trailer would need approximately 17 axles to handle the weight for this type of heavy haul trucking shipment.

Wideload Shipping & Trucking - This special type of shipment is classified as most any shipment that once it’s loaded on a truck and trailer for transport is over the legal dimensions or weights for traveling on roadways in North America including the United States, Canada and Mexico.  Regulations state that generally 102” is the maximum width for anything traveling on US, Canadian or Mexico roads.  If the shipment measures over 102” wide it will need to be permitted in order to travel in any of North America legally.  Most states will let oversize wideload or heavy haul travel with specifically documented permits if they are not over 10’ wide. Some states even allow for up to 12’ wide to travel with only a permit. If a product loaded is over 12’ wide it will have to have wideload pilot vehicles that follow it during transit. Each truck and pilot vehilce must have wideload shipping signs clearly on them.  Wideloads are restricted to travel at daylight hours only.
