The normal hours of operation for the Motor Carrier Division Austin Permits Office are 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Pilot Car - Escort vehicle requirements.

Length: 2 and 4 lanes up to 125’ one escort in rear. Over 125’ front and rear.
Width: 2 lanes up to 16’ one escort vehicle in front. 4 lanes up to 16’ one escort in rear.  Over 16’ requires one escort vehicle in front and one escort vehile in rear.
Height: Over 17’ requires high pole, over 18 requires high pole and chase.

Note: Permits are valid for 3 days. unless noted on permit.
 

Travel Restrictions

Travel is permitted 1/2 hour after sunrise and 1/2 hour before sunset. Continuous travel (night and weekends) is permitted if your heavy only.  Weekend travel is permitted if under 14’ wide, 110’ long or 16’ tall
