grants and gi bill

Grants and GI Bill opportunities.

First of all if you have any information you think may help others please use the form below to share or simply get involved.

As of December 20, 2019 we do not have any grants that students can apply for (that we know of) to help pay your tuition fee. We are working on getting what is called a “retraining grant” through the Department of Labor (DOL). However this is a process that is clearly lengthy and if we’re able to get it all set up in all probability will not be able to be applied for until the fiscal year of 2021.

If you are aware of any private funding sources please let us know.

GI Bill applicants.

For anyone who has or does serve our country first of all thank you very much for your dedication, service and time. While we have never had a student use the GI Bill to pay for any or all of their tuition why not be the first and try. Simply contact us and we’ll be happy to work with you in any capacity that we can.

Maximum trailer length allowed on roads, highways and interstates.

Maximum trailer length allowed on roads. highways and interstates.

Maximum length requirements semi trailer allowed on interstates, roads or highways in North America.

The Federal length limits are principally minimums that States must allow for the following vehicles on the NN and reasonable access routes.

Truck Tractor-Semitrailer Combinations

The minimum allowable length limit for the semitrailer in this combination is 14.63 m (48 feet) or the grandfathered limit for a particular State. (See discussion of Grandfathered Semitrailer Lengths on page 3.) A State may not impose an overall vehicle length limit on a truck tractor-semitrailer combination operating on the NN or reasonable access routes, even if the trailer is longer than the minimum length required by Federal law (Figure 2). A State may not impose an overall length limit on a truck tractor pulling a single semitrailer or a limit on the distance between the axles of such a truck tractor.

Maximum width on interstates, highways, roads. Commercial or private.

What is the maximum width on highways, roads and interstates?

What is the maximum width allowed on Interstates and highways (all reasonable access roads or what is referred to as the “National Network” or “NN”)? The maximum width allowed on Interstates and highways in North America is (unless otherwise posted by sign):

8 feet and 6 inches or 102.36 inches.

2.6 meters or 260 centimeters.

Within the state of Hawaii commercial motor vehicles are permitted the following maximum width on all highways (unless otherwise posted by sign):

9 feet or 108 inches.

2.74 meters or 274 centimeters.

Notes: These rules are for personal, commercial motor vehicles including semi tractors, trailers and buses. Mirrors and other items such as “mirrors” or “certain safety devices” (such as flags, etc.) are not included and may protrude out within a reasonable distance further. It should also be noted that there are county roads that do not support the maximum widths governed by federal guidelines. These roads usually have signs posted that display the maximum legal width permitted with out obtaining a special travel permit. You should always inquire about the maximum widths permitted by the governing body of the particular road prior to travelling on it in order to prevent a fine or worse. In some situations depending on the width of the vehicle or shipment size a route survey will be required prior to being granted permission to travel.

Maximum width allowed.

Maximum width laws are created to protect motorists and public assets. Know the maximums.

The importance of setting maximum widths for vehicles.

Safety of motorists and public property are the main reasons regulations were set for vehicle width maximums. A standard was required based on the dimensions of the existing roads that would protect any/all persons operating a motor vehicle on highways, roads and interstates. It should also be noted public property is placed at risk for damage as well. Should a motorists accidentally hit one of the many existing obstructions such as guard rails, signs, traffic signal poles, etc. liability while ultimately is the motorists, if it is not reported the state is required to repair damages which then is passed on to the taxpayers in both the USA and Canada. So maximum widths were created to protect both human lives but public property as well.

Noteworthy information:

“Federal width limits do not apply to special mobile equipment, which consists of self-propelled vehicles not designed or used primarily for the transportation of persons or property and only incidentally moved over the highways. Special mobile equipment includes the following, when moving under their own power: military or farm equipment; instruments of husbandry; road construction or maintenance machinery; and emergency apparatus, including police and fire emergency equipment. Federal rules do not require States to issue overwidth permits before allowing operation of special mobile equipment. However, if States wish to allow other vehicles more than 102 inches wide (i.e. non-special mobile equipment) to operate on the NN, then States must issue special overwidth permits.” Reference credit: FHWA website.

“The Federal Government first enacted size regulations for CMVs with the passage of the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956. This Act provided a maximum vehicle width of 96 inches (2.44 meters) on the Interstate highway system. Subsequently, the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1976 increased the allowable width for buses to 102 inches (2.6 meters). The Surface Transportation Assistance Act (STAA) of 1982 extended the same width requirement of 102 inches to commercial trucks. At the same time, the STAA expanded the highway network on which the Federal width provision applied from the Interstate to the National Network (NN) of highways.” Reference credit: FHWA website.

Web Winners 101.

Web winners 101.  Start to learn the game.

After managing this beast for almost 17 years online, I’ve recently has to ask myself why more companies don’t use specifically practice rules that aren’t big secrets anymore? Especially individuals like us who wear many hats daily plus managing our own websites. I’m convinced most people simply don’t understand how search engine algorithms work and preferred to pretend they’d eventually just go away. When you offer “premium” listings for $70-$100 a year (dinosaur “back links”) and your not flooded with listings you have to ask yourself what is wrong (or rather what are you doing wrong)? If you hired a SEO (search engine optimization) professional to make your own website place better in organic search results they’d quote you say $1500+ (and not even have to mess with any of your code) to produce the same results you could do yourself by properly creating a good quality backlink on any content related website over 15 years old. And they can even prove to you their “awesome” results thus putting a huge hook in your mouth.

Making your listing for for you.

It’s simple to get a backlink to work for you thus moving you from page 18 to page 1 or 2. Developers charge $1,500+ for this work.

Why not do it yourself?

Now there’s an original idea. Save yourself 900 smackaroos! If people knew the web worked this way our directories would be plugged. So here’s the big secret, this is how it’s done and what you will need:

  1. More than 600 words of original (not published anywhere else on the web) text. You want your keywords like state, company name, oversize, heavy-haul, etc. to be used 2.6 to 3% of the time. You can check your keyword density here free. To do this highlist the text you wish to check, then right click on the blue highlight and click “copy”. Then got to the density checker and select “Text” not url. Click one time in the text box, then right click and then click “paste”. This will drop the text you copied into the box and give you a report. Make certain you use all of your keywords and none of them rank over 3% or or 18 times if you typed exactly 600 words. Adjust the text accordingly and as soon as it is correct, highlight it, right click on it and select “copy”. Then go to your directory listing or login and click the edit icon, click once in the description field, right click and then click paste. You’re done.
  2. Be sure to upload as many original photos as it will allow you to. Also make certain you have used these photos nowhere else on the web so they are considered “original”.
  3. In the website URL box make certain you put in the “http://” before adding www.yourwebsite.com” or else the system will not record it properly nor create the important back link your after.
  4. Again, the proof is in the pudding. After you have activated (paid your account with us) go to: The Free rank checker and enter your website URL (without the http:// required) and enter some of your keywords about 10-20 days after your have completed your listing so the search engines have time to re-index your site/page.
  5. Suprise, suprise! Again, the proof is in the pudding. You went from obscurity towards the top results. This is exactly why our carrier directory is worth the meager fee we charge. Not only does it allow our 1,000,000+ human visitors see your listing, it also moves your website a considerable amount in the search results. What is better than this? Stay tuned, we’ve got a lot more where that came from.

We’re so sure you will understand much more about how the search engines work as well as how valuable a listing in our 17+ year directory we’re offering you 50% off ($50 for a premium listing) if you activate your account by the first if the year. Create your account today and get your business on the right track.

We’ll be publishing more articles soon on how to rank high in search results.

Nunavut thaw laws.

Nunavut winter frost and spring thaw laws.

Nunavut is in the process of defining their winter frost and spring thaw law restrictions program. In past years Nunavut didn’t have to worry about these issues to much. However recently due to recent climate changes they are forced with new challenges. Before transporting items during the thaw/frost months you are going to want to check in with the Nunavut to make certain your are operating legally prior to transport. Remember you can be held liable for any damages you may cause to their infrastructure. One single shipment could have a negative impact on you for your entire life. Shipping any items over the roads during the winter months needs to be carefully considered. Make certain you are operating legally by checking their shipping regulations.

Here are just a few of the issues being considered by the Nunavut Ministry of Transportation related to transportation of goods during the winter frost and spring thaw months:

  • Develop engineering terms of reference for transportation
  • Engineering concerns related to permafrost warming.
  • Increase in creep rate of existing pilings and footings.
  • Thaw settlement during seasonal thawing.
  • Increased frost-heave during winter.
  • Progressive landslide movements.
  • Progressive surface settlements.

Again, it is important transport companies are in compliance with all local government laws.
