Oversize Load Legal Travel Times in Utah

Travel times and restrictions in Utah:

  • The rule applies to one-half hour before sunrise and one-half hour after sunset. 
  • Suppose your shipment exceeds 92 feet in length, 10 feet in width, or 14 feet in height. In that case, you may NOT travel Monday – Friday during the hours of 6-9 am and 3:30 pm until 6 am in any of these locations: South of Perry, UT, exit 360 when in Box Elder County, Davis, Salt Lake, and Weber Counties, Utah County; Milepost 16, North of the I-15 and SR-75 interchange, exit 265 and SR-68.
  • Weekend travel is permitted in some areas, but not many. 
  • No travel on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and Pioneer Day (July 24th).  If the holiday is on a Friday, all travel stops by 2 pm on Thursday and does not resume until Tuesday morning.  
  • Utah DOT will shut down oversized travel if traffic is abundant on the roads, as noted during the first week of hunting season. The Saturday closest to October 20th will be shut down, and operations will not resume until Monday morning. 
  • Excessive weather will also shut it down.
