Oversize Legal Load Limits in New York
The following are the legal weight and dimensions limits in New York before shipping permits are required.
- Length: 65’
- Weight: GVW 80,000 lbs.
- Width: 8’ or 8’ 6” on Interstate and other designated highways.
- Height: 13’ 6”
New York Oversize and Overweight Shipping, Trucking, and Transport Permits
The following are the legal maximum weight and dimensions limits for shipping permits in New York.
- Length: 100’
- Weight: 5 axles 110,000 lbs. or 6 axles 132,000 lbs.
- Width: 14’ and if over 16’ a bond must be posted.
- Height: 13’ 11” and if over 14”, you will need a route/height survey.

The permit costs $40.00 and is valid for 8 days
Pilot/Escort Car Requirements in New York
NOTE: Police escorts are required for trucks pulling loads that exceed the following:
- Width: On 2 Lanes: Over 16’. Multi-Lanes: Over 18’
- Length: On 2 Lanes
- Height: 16’ or more
- Weight: 200,000 lbs.
Oversize Load Travel Restrictions in New York
Travel is permitted from ½ hour before sunrise to ½ hour after sunset Monday thru Friday and Saturday until noon.
NOTE: This State does have something called a “thruway permit” which can provide continuous travel. Inquire with the Department of Transportation and Trucking Permit Unit listed above.
