Arkansas Pilot Car Company | Oversize Load Escort Services

Wide Load Shipping is Arkansas’ most reliable pilot car services provider. We have years of experience and invaluable client loyalty. Our services cover every step of the transportation process from pick up to delivery. Shipping oversized loads across Arkansas requires massive expertise and know-how to guide them and ensure compliance with state regulations. Arkansas requires over-dimensional loads to have pilot cars to guide them when moving on public roads. Pilot cars lead or follow oversized loads to warn other motorists, clear the road, identify obstacles, and guide the load across rugged terrain. Arkansas is a giant in the agricultural industry, ranking top among poultry, aquaculture, and rice producers. We have continuously served the state’s agriculture industry by moving oversized farm machinery and industrial equipment. We handle shipping other loads, including construction equipment and power turbines. Speak to our specialists today!

When are Pilot Cars Required in Arkansas?

Heavy-haul or oversized loads will require to be accompanied by an escort vehicle or pilot car if they meet or exceed the following dimensions and weight;

  • Length: If the load is 75′ to 95′ on a 2-lane road, you will need one rear pilot car.
  • Width: 10′ 6″ to 12′ wide on a 2-lane road requires one front pilot car. When a load is 12′ 1″ to 14′ wide, 1 front and one rear pilot car is required on all 2-lane roads and one rear on all 4-lane roads. For loads 14′ 1″ – 15′ wide, one front and one rear pilot car is required. 15′ 1″ to 16′ wide on two lanes requires two front pilot cars and one rear pilot car. One front and two rear pilot cars are required on four all-lane roads.
  • Height: A front high pole car is required if the load height exceeds 15′.
  • Weight: Check with the State to see if your weight class will require a pilot car.
  • Overhang: If the front overhang is over 10′ on 2—or 4-lane roads, one front pilot car is required. If the rear overhang exceeds 10′ on a 2—or 4-lane road, one rear escort is required.

Route Survey for Oversized Loads in Arkansas

Once you book Wide Load Shipping pilot cars services, we conduct a detailed route survey of the roadway to assist with route planning and, in some cases, to comply with regulations. The Arkansas Department of Transportation may require a route survey before issuance to acquire permits for over-height loads. A route survey involves traveling the proposed route in a certified pilot car to check for tight turns, the height clearances of bridges and underpasses, overhead utilities, and railway crossings. We use this data to acquire the necessary paperwork and plan for the swiftest route and one with minimal permit application times. Our logistics experts work hand in hand with our drivers to map out and use only the most reliable highways. They include;

  • Interstate 30: it links Little Rock to Texarkana
  • Interstate 40: This is a major highway for transporting oversized loads between the eastern and western parts of Arkansas
  • U.S Route 67: Running centrally through the State

Whether your project involves single or multiple oversized loads, book our pilot car services today for a seamless experience.
